ModelingGlass is a new product that has been in development for several years at GlassBird Studios. It's a unique two-part kit consisting of a powdered binder andliquid medium that artists combine with water and their own powdered glass orfrit. The resulting material has the consistency of clay, is smooth and easy towork with. It won't stick to your hands or tools. The binder and liquid mediumare food-grade and non-toxic.
Youcan work with Modeling Glass in many of the same ways you would work with clay:roll into coils, roll into a flat sheet and cut out shapes, or press intosilicone molds. Modeling Glass holds its shape without freezing. When fired totack-fuse temperatures it will hold an amazing amount of textural detail. Itcan be thinned with water and used to create beautiful palette-knife textures.Combine colors to make your own blends.
Beforefiring, dry Modeling Glass shapes can be sanded, carved, and otherwisemodified, virtually eliminating the need for extensive cold working afterfiring.
During firing, the binder and medium will burn away, anddo not affect the compatibility of the glass. It can be used with either COE 90or 96 glass, and at full-fuse temperatures, colors remain true.
